Hidden Figures

Hidden Figures

April 25 | 5 pm

Families are encouraged to attend a free screening of the Academy Award nominated film, Hidden Figures, at King Science and Technology Magnet, 3720 Florence Blvd. (use main entrance on east side of building). Guests can watch the movie in the cafeteria and then view student science projects throughout the building.

As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history.  Known as "human computers," Hidden Figures follows the true life stories of three of these women as they rose through the ranks of NASA and calculated the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and helped guarantee his safe return. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.

The screening is sponsored by a collaboration of the Omaha STEM Ecosystem, Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences and Omaha Public School Science Department.
